Eligibility  Requirements

Applicants must be certified and employed as a teacher in his or her home country, or country of legal residence.

Applicants must have at least three (3) years of full time, post-degree classroom teaching experience as a teacher in a primary or secondary school. Must have a valid teaching license and passport.

Applicants must agree to live and teach in the United States of America as a full time teacher of record in an accredited primary or secondary school.

Applicants must have a degree equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree in Education in the USA and a Bachelor’s Degree in the subject field in which they intend to teach.

Applicants must be proficient to native level English fluency - orally and in written language.

Applicants must meet the necessary qualifications for teaching in primary or secondary schools within their home country.

Applicants must satisfy all teaching eligibility standards, including any necessary certification and/or criminal background checks required in the U.S. state in which they intend to teach.

Admissions interview

If your application is accepted, you will be invited to participate in a live video interview to discuss your application and evaluate your compatibility with our program. It is a chance to showcase your classroom skills and teaching practices through a conversation with one of our interviewers.

Application review

After a successful virtual interview, you will be asked to start gathering the documents needed to complete the Participate Learning admissions process. You will also be invited to watch a recording and attend a live Q&A session on program benefits to get your questions answered.

Program eligibility

After a successful admissions interview and submission of your application documents, we review your information to ensure your eligibility for a U.S. teaching license and visa sponsorship. If approved, you become eligible for an interview with a U.S. school.

Consider US teaching positions

After sharing your information with U.S. school districts that are interested in hosting international teachers, we notify you if a school is interested in making a job offer or speaking with you by phone or video call to consider you for a teaching position. Schools begin hiring Ambassador Teachers in December of the prior school year. We strive to find a teaching position for all teachers who reach this stage. In rare cases, some candidates have to wait more than one year.

Make a decision

Some U.S. schools begin to extend offers to teachers as early as December of the prior school year, but the majority of schools hire their new teachers between January and June. Once an offer is made, we typically ask you to decide within 3 days.

Obtain your visa

After you accept a job offer, we will send you the documents you need to apply for an exchange visa.
